Drop off at the MTC

Daniel got up just before six and he packed all of his belongings. He had two suitcases and a backpack and they were all very packed. Indeed, he needed help with pressure on the bags to get them closed. Daniel and his parents made their way to the White Rock Chapel and were even a little bit early. Daniel's grandmother followed Daniel and his parents to the White Rock Chapel. Paul, Heather, Allison, and Ryan and President Russell Pack arrived at the same time. President Pack interviewed Daniel and then set apart Daniel as a full time missionary. He blessed him that he would be successful and find those who would listen to his message. After the blessing all gave Daniel farewell hugs except for Allison who all of a sudden got shy. He got a great kiss from Ryan. Daniel and his parents then changed Sunday clothes to traveling clothes and proceeded to drive to Salt Lake. Daniel and his parents drove straight to Nathan and Maggie's home and then went shopping for Daniel to finish assembling his mission supplies.

20 August 2008 Wednesday

Maggie cut Daniel's hair early in the morning so that he had a missionary haircut when he entered the missionary training center. Daniel wanted Maggie to cut his hair so he waited until the day he entered the Missionary Training Center. Daniel and his parents and Nathan and Maggie left for the Missionary Training Center at about a quarter to eleven and got in Provo in good time so Daniel went to Subway for a sandwich before he went into the MTC. His parents and Nathan and Maggie watched him eat the Subway sandwich because they were going to eat at a nicer restaurant after he entered the MTC. Doing so and taking a bunch of pictures caused us to be late so he went in on the 1:00 session rather than the 12:30 session as he was scheduled. We entered the room during the middle of the group but were directed to the very front of the room and we all sat on the very front row. We all listened to the MTC mission president and watched a video and then Daniel gave all short quick hugs and he went through one door and parents went out the other door.

I gave him a haircut in the morning and it looked good! :0) Then we (Richard, Kaye, Nate, Dan & I) drove to Provo. We ate at Subway and then took Daniel to the MTC. As we went into the chapel they took us to the very front to sit. Then the MTC president spoke with his wife. One of the president's counselors was conducting the meeting. Everyone sang Called to Serve! It was great hearing so many voices. We watched Called to Serve and then the missionaries went out one door and familiy went out the other door. As we were leaving and hugging, Daniel kept saying "It's not like I'm dying, I'll be back in two years."
